The module aims to provide an understanding of the definition, importance, and legal framework of providing First Aid, as well as to develop skills for safely managing crisis and disaster situations. Concurrently, it focuses on risk assessment, self-protection, and the provision of Psychological First Aid, aiming to offer immediate support to affected individuals and connect them with appropriate support networks.

Upon completion of the course, learners will be able to:

8.1.1 First Aid: Importance, objectives, and legal framework

Recognize what First Aid is and when it is provided.
Apply basic steps for safe and effective intervention.
Identify the three primary objectives: preserving life, preventing worsening, and promoting recovery.
Recognize the legal framework and social responsibility that accompanies the provision of First Aid.

8.1.2 Situation assessment, safety, and self-protection

Differentiate between immediate and potential risks.
Assess the safety of the area before approaching a victim.
Protect themselves by using the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

8.1.3 Psychological First Aid (Part A)

Recognize the psychological symptoms and reactions of individuals experiencing crises or traumatic events.
Apply basic Psychological First Aid skills.
Avoid behaviors that negatively impact or burden the individual’s psychological state.

8.1.4 Psychological First Aid (Part B)

Recognize the signs of psychological distress or anxiety following a traumatic event.
Apply Psychological First Aid (PFA) and safely provide psychological support.
Provide practical and emotional support to those in need, addressing immediate needs and helping them connect with loved ones or available support structures.
